Employee On-Leave to Antarctica

August 27, 2008, Arlington Heights, IL   Katie Leum, Lead Research Analyst for HarneTech, has taken a leave of absence to work on a special assignment in Antarctica.  During her time, she was researching renewable energy businesses with partnership potential  for HarneTech.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin -Stout, where she was awarded a B.S. in Business Administration, Katie will be working in Antarctica for the second time on an assignment for Raytheon Polar Services as an Administrative Coordinator at the Crary Laboratory.  Her responsibilities will include: scheduling twice weekly science lectures for the community at McMurdo Station, coordinating the inbriefs and outbriefs for all incoming science groups, and several other duties. This will be her second season in this role, dating back to September 2007. 

She was selected for work at the station from a large number of applicants, and after two years of applying with Raytheon Polar Services.   After being selected as a Primary Candidate, the Qualification Process continued with testing, and training for several weeks before departing for "the ice".   This season should prove to be easier than last, as she has proved she "knows the ropes." Katie will remain in Antarctica  or "On the Ice" throughout the Spring and Summer Seasons (Fall and Winter in Chicago).
